The Kingdom of God was the central theme of Christ’s ministry when He physically walked the planet thousands of years ago. He was sent by God to restore what Adam lost when he yielded to Satan in the Garden of Eden and abdicated his authority. The earth was placed under Satan’s rule and became his domain. However, it is written that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell there in.
God was not and will not be out done by Satan. In the fullness of time Christ was sent by God to redeem man and reconcile him back to his rightful place in the Kingdom, as ordained in the beginning in Adam. II Corinthians 5:19….to wit that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. This would ultimately be completed by man having access to the Kingdom of God through the born again experience. John 3:3…except a man be born again he can’t see the Kingdom of God and John 3:5…except a man be born again he can’t enter the Kingdom of God.
To be born again is to be procreated from on high. This speaks of a spiritual birth because the Kingdom of God is spiritual not earthly. It’s a spiritual Kingdom that’s heavenly in its nature, yet having tremendous impact on the earth. This truth can be further viewed in I Corinthians 15:45….the first man, Adam, was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a living spirit. Christ was the last Adam and He walked fully in what the first Adam had not conquered, the temptation of Satan. We have been given the rule of the Kingdom by our Heavenly Father.
Furthermore, the Lord tells Pilate in John 18:37 when asked was “He a King?” the Lord says that was the purpose and intent for His birth and life on the earth, to restore the rule of God’s Kingdom.
I’ve been blessed to travel to many places and see many cultures. One common thread I find in the nations is the fact that the citizens believe that their nation is the best, at least in certain aspects. The truth of the matter is Christ’s Kingdom is superior to every other kingdom and nation in every way. Man, in his limited ability, could never cultivate nor develop anything comparable to that of God’s Kingdom.
As humans we’ve been given the power to choose. The choices we make in life often determine how and what type of life we will lead. Matthew 6:33 offers the simplest solution on how we can be assured of a successful, healthy and victorious life…. “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto the.” Another way of looking at this verse is to say “seek the Kingdom of God first and foremost, make it your daily priority. Also strive to do right and be righteous according to His divine standard and all the things your contemporaries desire I’ll add to you.” When this revelation is lacking then Matthew 6:33 poses some of the greatest challenges to the human race because of the way it addresses the subject of priorities. In order for things to be added, e.g. careers, education, politics, government, equality, justice, etc and established righteously in our societies, the Kingdom must be first.
The pursuit of life should be prioritized around seeking God’s Kingdom and his Righteousness first. The word first is the Greek word “Proton” which refers to time, place, order and importance. When not managed properly time can create problems for us either by not having enough for the fast paced busy person or too much for the lazy and inactive. The results are the same either way, a life governed by missed opportunities and frustrations because goals and achievements aren’t reached. This will in turn begin to affect the order and importance (priorities) of our life.
The Kingdom of God addresses the very core of the sinful nature because it’s built and established by God’s righteousness. That’s why when preached it challenges every other Kingdom and sometimes shakes the listener to the bone. The Lord admonishes us to press into it according to Luke 16:16. When it’s proclaimed to us we’ve got to become forceful and diligent in pursuing it. Everything in our societies is slowly becoming built on Godless ideologies and concepts. This is one reason why we as believers must begin to deal with mindsets, behavior and structures in our personal lives which reject the Kingdom from being first. We must receive grace to reorder and prioritize our life and time around the Kingdom of God. As we do this the force of righteousness will go to work on our behalf. It comes when the Kingdom is first. Righteousness simply means virtue, morality, justice, honesty & decency. The fringe benefits of righteousness are comparable to none. The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life…..Proverbs 10:11, Righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 10:2, 10:16, Righteousness exalts nations. Proverbs 14:34, the labor of the righteous tends to or produces life. These few verses along with a host of others show the power and force of righteousness. I pray that as you seek first the King, the Kingdom of God and His righteousness an experience of abundant living will be your portion.
